MAUI JIM, INC. TO CONTINUE SPONSORSHIP OF THE MAUI JIM HORSE TRIALS
Maui Jim, Inc. of Peoria, Illinois will continue as title sponsor of the Maui Jim Horse Trials in Wayne, Illinois July 9-12. The company is in the fourth year of a five year sponsorship agreement, and its tremendous generosity has contributed greatly to the success of the competition. Maui Jim manufactures popular high end sunglasses that have become known as “must have” items in the world of equestrian sport.
This year, Novice has been added to the line up at the Horse Trials which also features FEI (International) CIC Three, Two and One Star levels as well as National divisions of Advanced, Intermediate, Preliminary and Training. Another change will be noted in the jog for the FEI Divisions. This will take place on Thursday at 5 PM following the mandatory in barn inspections instead of at the traditional Sunday morning time.
So far this year, entries nationally have been down, something not unexpected in the current economy. Sensitive to this, the Maui Jim organizing committee is taking steps to help out competitors. Change and office fees will no longer be charged, and stall fees will be refunded after closing day up until the Sunday before the event given proper notification to the event Secretary.
Entries for the competition open on May 26, and organizers are hoping that a healthy number of competitors will enter despite the unpredictable national economy, something that has never been a problem for this destination event. Area eventers enjoy rubbing elbows with such stars of their world as two time World Champion Bruce Davidson, his equally successful son Buck DEavidson, and Olympian Becky Holder.
Tentatively, dressage is scheduled for Friday, cross country for Saturday, and show jumping for Sunday, the latter day also featuring Special Olympic Equestrian competitions and opportunities to learn about the work done by the event’s beneficiary, the Illinois Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs Organization. Admission and parking are free, food and a variety of vendors will be on site, and families are urged to attend for a day in the country experience with the addition of the thrill of watching world class horses perform.
